san diego here we come!
friday afternoon we checked into the hyatt regency in la jolla. this was eli's first hotel stay so of course i had to document it. i wonder if he'll learn to love hotel rooms as much as his brother and i do. and how do i know mateo absolutely loves hotel rooms? trust me, you can tell. right when we walk into a room 9 times out of 10 he says, "ooooh, what a pretty room!" then, he goes on being giddy the rest of the stay.

after taking quick power naps we went to one of la jolla's gorgeous beaches. i think mateo remembered how cold he was after getting into the water during our last beach trip so he said he wasn't going to get wet this time. all he wanted to do was play in the sand with uncle phil. but, not even 2 minutes after we got there he totally did a face plant in you guessed it, the water! the poor guy was wet all over.

don't you just want to bite them chubby little legs?!!

uncle phil's ever growing tat. makes me want one of my own.

saturday...
ever since we've been planning this trip to cali, mateo has of course been super excited. one of the things he was excited about most was going to see shamu. he's convinced that he remembers his first trip to sea world when he was just under a year old but i'm quite certain that's not true. so, we hyped him up by reading every single sea creature and whale book we could find. it's amazing what a little reading can do and how much information mateo's little brain can retain. it definitely made the trip that much more fun.
our sea world adventure started with some playtime.

then, it was time for the shows to begin!

i was going through a huge dilemma during the entire show. i couldn't decide whether to watch shamu or mateo. i think i ended up watching mateo for most of the time waiting for some kind of reaction but i should have known better. i know that when he's totally into something he's laser focused. no facial expressions, no movements, nothing whatsoever.

getting up close and personal with some of his favorites. shamu!

sting rays.

sea lions.

the new dolphin show, blue horizon was pretty crazy with lots going on. i again had no idea what to watch.

the rest of the night consisted of us trying to get the most of our food passes. we ate and ate and ate and i'm glad to say we actually got our money's worth and then some.
p.s. you wouldn't know it cause i don't have 1 single picture (i'm so mad at myself!) but little tyler who was just barely 1 month old was right there with us. he's such a little trooper and did so well on his first trip to sea world.
sunday...
we said goodbye to grandpa george, grandma carol, and san diego and headed back home for the much anticipated lakers game. all the guys (+ families) came over and it was just like old times. exactly what papa wanted. the only thing is they were yelling way louder than i've ever heard them before. maybe they were making up for lost time. too bad it didn't work because the lakers lost and everyone went home with their heads down. little did they know they'd be celebrating another championship a week later!
