newport, or

my mom has always wanted to spend a few days on the oregon coast. she said she wanted to see the lighthouses which i’m sure is true. but, i’m also sure the casinos were another big reason why :) every time they visit the days seem to fly by and we don’t have time to do it. this time around we planned ahead and finally made our way (rain or shine) to the coast for an overnight getaway.

newport is a coastal town about 3 or so hours away from portland. the last time i had been there it was just albert and i with mateo in my belly. it was a trip to celebrate our birthdays and our last chance to getaway before the big “d” day. needless to say this little town holds a special place in my heart. i love it. besides the casino (which is technically in lincoln city) it is so quaint and not at all touristy. the lighthouses are beautiful and the port looks as if it hasn’t changed since the day it was first built.

just as you enter the town you come across the first lighthouse. my mom was patiently waiting for years and years to finally see one. but, i’m sure she never imagined that she would be practically blown away when she finally did. literally! the wind was so strong that the boys didn’t dare get out of the car.

one of my all time favorite pictures of my parents. it makes me laugh just thinking about that oh so very windy day.

after checking in and relaxing at the hotel for just a little bit we braved the weather yet again. this time to find some food. we ended up at local ocean seafoods. a place recommended by my friend and it was amazing! the seafood comes straight off the fishing boats and onto your plate. it’s that fresh.

unfortunately, once dinner was devoured the weather got so bad we ended up back at the hotel. i guess we can’t totally complain because mateo and i for some odd reason love hanging out in hotel rooms. i guess it’s that feeling of relaxation that gets us.

bright and early the next morning we woke up to a busy day. we had to visit 2 lighthouses (1 being the same one we tried visiting the day before) and the oregon coast aquarium before heading back home.

i love our little getaways. i might just start planning another right away.
