Friday afternoon we took advantage of summer hours and left work early, packed up the car, picked up Mateo, and headed down to Salem, Oregon. I make it sound like Salem is a long ways away but it's really only 45 minutes south of Portland. Seems like everyone else had a similar plan because the freeway was packed. Traffic? In Oregon? Yes, unfortunately sometimes there is. So, after a little detour in the wrong direction and a stop at Jamba Juice we finally made it to The Oregon State Fair. Honestly, we didn't know what to expect. We weren't even sure we really wanted to go cause everyone we asked had never gone before. But, we said, "Hey, why not? We weren't doing anything anyways."
I think Mateo was a little scared at first....

But, after getting some good food in our bellies (milk only for him of course) he started to warm up.

We saw and did everything from shopping at the booths to petting animals to watching all the crazy lights around us. There was even a place to play beach volleyball and a skate park too. Papa was sad of course since he didn't have his skateboard. But, at least we know for next year and maybe Little Pop can skate too.
By the end of the night he was having a blast.
